Now that the filing is done, there are contested races in the cities of Rockdale, Thorndale, Cameron and Lexington, but the school districts in those cities will not hold May 1 elections since just enough people filed to fill the openings.

The Rockdale city ballot will include Scott Starnes and incumbent Richard Coppedge running for the open seat on the east side.

On the west side Brett Boren is unopposed for that open seat. Jason Barcak who was

Jason Barcak who was the incumbent west side city councilman chose not to seek another term on the council.

He instead chose to seek a place on the Rockdale Independent School District board of trustees. Since he was the only candidate to file for the Place 1 position he will become a member of the board as the district has called off the election as there were only two candidates for the two open seats. Incumbent Troy Zinn, who is currently the Rockdale Independent School District board president, will retake his Place 2.

Milano will not have a May election as all the incumbents signed up for new terms and no one filed to challenge them. In the Milano City Council race four incumbents will reclaim their seats. Karl Westbrook will be mayor and council members Steve Honeycutt, Bryan Woods and Glenda Westbrook will continue on the council.

MISD school board incumbents Shawn Walton and Levi Keen will return to their seats, as well.

In Thorndale, George Galbreath will be mayor for another term as no one signed up to challenge him in the city election.

Three men are seeking two spots on the city council. They are incumbent Jared Melde, Gerald Niemtschk and Sam Pickett. Thorndale also has a ref

Thorndale also has a referendum on its ballot. Voters there will be asked whether to accept or reject reauthorizing a local sales and use tax at the rate of 1/4 of one percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets.

There will be no election in the Thorndale Independent School District board race as incumbents Ann Glenn and Adam Fisher drew no challengers to their spots on the board.

On the Cameron City Council, Cliff Cryer and Kyle Nuttall are running for the open at-large seat while incumbents Maurice Goza, Kyle Deal and Virgie Hardeman will return to the council because they drew no opponents.

In the Cameron Independent School District, there were three at-large positions available. The terms of board members Franci Denio, Greg Hoelscher and Michael McAnulty are up in May. Two incumbents, Franci Denio and Michael McAnulty, both filed. Hoelscher did not file for reelection and no other candidate filed for a place on the ballot. The board will at some point before May cancel the election and then take care of the board vacancy later this year. In the city of Lexing

In the city of Lexington, Elvis Lewis, Chris Billings, Cindy Herklotz, Kandis Buchanan and Jessica Reda are running for three open seats. Diana Jackson Matson, who signed up to run for an unexpired term on the council, will take a seat after the May election as she faces no opposition.
