In the local election on May 7, Rockdale voters will have a contested mayoral race and two contested city council spots to decide.

Incumbent Mayor John King will seek reelection and is being challenged by Brett Boren who joined the race on Friday. Boren is currently serving his initial term as a city council member representing the West Ward.

Three people are in a contest for the West Ward council seat, the seat being vacated by Belinda Hillhouse. Braden Wallis, pit master at Brett’s Backyard Barbeque, filed early, followed on Friday by Realtors Kyle Walker and Brad Caffey. Caffey also owns Caffey Corner.

Incumbent council member Michelle Larkin is seeking reelection and is being challenged by Esmeralda Olivares for one of the East Ward positions. Olivares is a nurse with the Milam County Health Department.

Last Friday was the last day to file for the local elections.

School board elections will also be held May 7. So far the following people have filed: Amy Ogea Casas for Place 3, Charles Miles for Place 4. Braden Byrd and Lindsey Lillard will vie for Place 5.
