Who’s afraid of a little rain?
Final figures on 2018 Rockdale Fair auction sales were compiled Friday and they show it was a banner year for support of area 4-H and FFA youth, despite the rain, event cancellations and wet grounds.
Cindy Hughes RFA president said the four auctions raised a total of $632,400.75.
That breaks down this way
• Youth livestock auction, $333,991,05.
• Commercial heifer auction, $275,725.22.
• Ag mechanics auction, $9,653.87.
• Baked goods auction, $13,031.61.
RUNNER-UP—Even with the concern about weather, the youth livestock total is the second highest in the 42 Rockdale Fairs, behind only the record $392,870 last year.
Stiles Patin of the Thorn-dale 4-H Club showed the grand champion steer which he sold to a consortium of buyers for $27,053.25.
Primary buyers were Patin Construction, Dig Tech Inc., Superior Crushed Stone, Land Art Landscaping, APAC and Tech Line Pipe.
There was also added money from 10 businesses or individuals.
COMMERCIAL— The top pen of commercial heifers was exhibited by Landree Leifeste of the Cameron 4-H Club.
Sale price was $9,475 with Mike Morris as the primary buyer.
AG MECHANICS—Victoria Smith of the Thorn-dale FFA had the grand champion senior entry in ag mechanics.
It sold for $4,945. Primary buyer was Pro-Tech Fire & Security.
James Bartsch of the Rockdale 4-H Club had the junior grand champ. It sold for $1,720. Primary buyer was Donna Bartsch.
BAKED GOODS— Grand champion baked goods auction as follows:
• Senior cakes, Gracen Dach, Cameron FFA, $1,245; primary buyer, Lexington Livestock.
• Senior pies, Tyler Shillings, Thorndale FFA, $1,615; primary buyer, Sisters Ranch.
• Senior cookies, Natalie Garcia, Thorndale 4-H, $1,270; primary buyer, BETRO.
• Junior cakes—Kenley Harris, Cameron Jr. FFA, $1,365; primary buyer, Milam County Livestock.
• Junior pies, Jacie Hartley, Rockdale 4-H, $600; buyer, Farm Bureau Insurance.
• Junior cookies, Trenton Berry, Cameron 4-H, $1,075; primary buyer, Milam County Buyers Group.
