The first Apache Pass Barbecue Cook-Off & Car Show is this weekend at the Apache Pass Events Center, said Nicholas Baggerly of R&B Accessories, Tires and Trailers in Rockdale.
In addition to the cookoff and car show, there will be live music both Friday and Saturday nights.
Friday night will have Peaches & Creme playing and Saturday night will have Kenny Orts, a longtime player in the Texas county music scene, entertaining the crowd.
There will be arts and craft vendors during the weekend. There will be T-shirts on sale to commemorate the first time event.
Inflatables will also be on the grounds for youngsters to jump around and play in.
So far 60 teams are entered in the cookoff, but there is still room for more to pay the $125 entry fee. The competition is sanctioned by the Lonestar Barbecue Society, Baggerly said. Winners in the brisket, ribs, chicken and cookers choice will earn trophies and cash. There will also be a jackpot beans competition for those in the barbecue contest, providing they pay the $20 bean cookoff entry fee.
The car show will feature all sorts of vehicles, Baggerly said.
The car show should have cars on display starting a 9 a.m.
The event is free, but there is a $10 parking fee on the grounds.
