The photo above is the first booster page dedicated to the Battle of the Bell rivalry and ran in the Reporter Oct. 28, 1954. RHS cheerleader Donna Haelbig sits atop the bell, which was striped with the colors of both schools.

Coach Dutch O’Neil was at the helm of the 1954 Tiger team and the co-captains for the game were Henry Ellison and Jerry Crim. Fullback Rex McRae handled the kick off for the game. The rest of the Tiger squad included, halfbacks Richard Strelsky and David Yount; tight ends Jerry Jones and James Clore; tackles Jerry Holen and Leslie Tice; guards James and Jerry Crim; quarterback Edward Grubbs and center Dick Tuma.

According to the Reporter game story the following week, “Coach Leo Jackson’s Cameron Yoemen pulled their second 22AA victory from the fire here Friday, ousting the Rockdale Tigers from district contention 13-12.

“Fired up and ready for the kill Rockdale pushed the Yoes all over the turf during the first half and the greater part of the second period before Jackson’s ace ball-hawk did a bit of burning himself.”
