CAMERON—Five persons were sentenced during the past week in 20th District Court, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey.
He listed case dispositions as follows:
• Antonio Vargas Jr., 34, Cameron, sentenced to a five-year prison term after pleading “true” to a motion to revoke probation on an original conviction of hindering apprehension of felon.
• Daniel Ward Phillips, 42, Rock-dale, was placed on five years deferred adjudication probation with standard conditions of probation, including 180 days confinement in the county jail, and was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine along with $180 restitution to the DPS lab after pleading guilty to possession of controlled substance (4-200 grams).
• Aaron Michael Verrell, 24, Rock-dale, was sentenced to two years confinement in the state jail division of TDJC, probated for three years, with standard conditions of drug abuse probation including successful completion of drug education and substance abuse evaluation, along with any treatment recommended, and was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and $282.66 restitution after pleading guilty to possession of controlled substance (less than one gram).
• April Gailey, 39, of Rockdale, was placed on three years deferred adjudication probation with standard conditions of probation including the successful completion of a theft aversion court and was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine with restitution to be determined to the victim after pleading guilty to a theft ($2,500 to $30,000).
• Scott Alan Cope, 28, of Rockdale, was sentenced to a nine-month state term jail division of TDJC and was ordered to pay $180 restitution to the DPS lab after pleading guilty to possession of controlled substance (less than one gram).
