Have you ever been riding down Meadow Drive during the rain and wondering if your car will make it through all the water?
Those days will soon be over after the City of Rockdale was awarded a Community Development Block Grant of $4,400,000 with the city adding a match of $44,620.
According to Public Works Director Jerald Brunson, “The current construction on Childress and Meadow is a combination of 48-inch, 36-inch and 18-inch reinforced concrete pipe that will eliminate a large portion of storm water generated by heavy rainfall.”
The inlets to the new drainage system include both curb inlets and multiple grated inlets along both streets currently under construction.
Other areas of the plan include a big project along Belton Street rebuilding the water crossing there and the drainage area between Belton and US 79.
There will also be work done in areas that drain into Ham Branch targeted to stabilize and reduce channel erosion.
Two other areas of work include US 79 at Bridge Park and stabilizing the flow channel west of MLK Boulevard that flows from Seventh and Eighth Streets south onto MLK.
