The Texas Bioscience Institute Middle College program offers highly-motivated high school students the opportunity to earn up to 60 college credit hours in a STEM–focused (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) foundational curriculum.

“This is the first year that the RISD allowed eligible students to participate in this amazing program so I think the kids are all adjusting,” Esmeralda Olivares said.

“I think they deserve so much support, credit and recognition for all their hard work as they represent the Rockdale ISD in a positive light every day and work so hard. These kids are at the top of their class doing amazing things,” she added.

“This fall Tatiana was a varsity cheerleader and ran cross country. The other three, Mikalia, Jimena and Kevin, were all athletic trainers. All four of them are also very active in student council, NHS and other school organizations,” she said.

When asked what their long term educational goals were, Kevin said he wanted to be a neurologist, Tatiana wants to be an officer in the armed forces, Jimena wants to get her doctorate in nursing and McKalia wants to get her bachelor’s in nursing.

With this kind of determination, no doubt they will all succeed.

Students who are interested in this program should contact RHS counselors Rebecca Ingram or Kelly Windham.
