MILANO NEWS
Plans have been announced for the annual City of Milano Fourth of July parade and hot dog luncheon. The theme for this year’s parade is “A Grand Old Flag.”
All individuals, groups and organizations are invited to be a part of the parade. Create your own float; decorate a vehicle, walk, skate, dance or march to show your patriotism. Horses, buggies and wagons are a tradition in the line-up of the parade.
Line up begins at 9:30 a.m. at the MISD football field parking lot. Judging begins at 10 a.m., with entries needing to be ready to go by 9:55 a.m. to be eligible for judging.
The parade will kick off at 10:30 a.m., head south on Fifth Street, go under the US 79/TX 36 viaduct and travel through downtown past the post office, circling around past the Baptist and Methodist churches, ending up at the Milano Civic Center.
Plaques will be awarded at the Civic Center after the parade. Awards will be given out in the following divisions: Best overall, floats, bicycles/walkers/small animals, vehicles and tractors, small motorized/battery operated (go-carts, four-wheelers, lawn mowers, etc.), horses/wagons.
A free hot dog lunch with all of the trimmings will be served immediately following the parade inside the Civic Center. For more information, contact Mayor Rodney Gage at 254-541-2816.

KRISTI’S KRUSADERS—The annual Kristi’s Krusaders MS Rally for a cure event will be held Sept. 8 at Nat’s in Milano. This one will be for Kristi (Bode). The event will include a motorcycle run, barbecue meal, live auction, a raffle, 50/50 drawing, T-shirt sales and live music from both Brooke Graham and Chris Kleiber.
T-shirt orders are encouraged prior to the event on the event’s Facebook page or at ssditto@gmail.com. For more information, contact Ray Ditto (512-760-0143), Amber Ditto (254-214-3042) or Kristi Bode (512-429-8942).
LAGRONE REUNION—The 79th annual Lagrone Family reunion is in the books. I love our family time and am grateful for all of those who put in the hours of prep work it takes for the weekend-long event.
Saturday night saw people enjoy lots of domino playing, “reunion style” volleyball (our group is a little competitive), hot dogs, homemade chili, homemade ice cream, live music and the 13th annual Lagrone muster ceremony. The candlelight ceremony honors family members, loved ones and friends of our family who have passed over the last year.
Father’s Day lunch on Sunday included a barbecue buffet fit for kings with tons of sides and desserts to go right along with it. We hope everyone who came to the farm had a great time and we invite all to come out next Father’s Day weekend for the 80th annual event.
