Rockdale’s Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home is providing a free phone app which just might save your life.

Vital ICE (In Case of Emergency) is available on either the Apple App Store or Google Play. It only takes a few minutes to fill out. Once done it will deliver vital information to first responders, aid them in finding you during an emergency situation and can even summon help.

And there’s much more.

“It’s a great thing, and we are very glad to be able to offer this to our area,” Wallace Jones, Phillips & Luckey owner, said. “We encourage everyone to use it. This takes things way beyond emergency numbers on refrigerator magnets.”

INSTANT HELP—Once filled out by the user, the app provides first responders vital information, including medical history, medications and allergies, even insurance information immediately upon reaching the scene, information that might not be available from a patient.

Such info can also be sent directly to the hospital where the patient is being transported.

It’s free to everyone regardless of age. “I think this is going to be especially helpful to senior citizens,” Jones said. “Relatives, or caretakers, may have to help them set it up, but once it’s activated it can provide some peace of mind.”

That just scratches the surface of what the app can do. There’s a user-friendly video online which outlines many more of its features.

When properly set up, the app can provide the same service as the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” product which saturates television cable/ satellite networks. Vital ICE can actually summon assistance.

And it’s free. Those television products charge a monthly fee.

DOWNLOAD—Here’s how you get it. Go to either Apple App Store or Google Play. You will be asked to enter a code. If you are in the Rockdale Phillips & Luckey service area, enter “1041.” If you are in the Giddings-Lexington area, enter 3113.

That leads you to questions concerning your health history and medication.

Questions about the app can be addressed at www.vitalboards.com/vitalice.

“Phillips & Luckey is making this available for free to download in the community as a way of showing our gratitude for allowing us to serve you,” Jones said.
