Here are a few scenes around Rockdale from last Thursday when the temperatures never got above freezing, causing all schools in Milam County to be closed, as well as most businesses.

Below, the “lake” at Rockdale Junior High was choppy with the wind and was frozen over by Friday morning. In the top photo, the Rockdale Elementary School’s front steps and grounds were covered in ice from all the sleet.

Many county roads were closed including CRs 119, 120, 132, 147, 429, 437 and 445. FM 486 was closed at Brushy Creek, FM 487 was closed at Valhalla Farms and FM 908 at Brushy Creek were all closed on Thursday, but most were back open by late Friday morning.

The freezing rain stopped between 2 and 3 p.m. Thursday and the sun tried to come out from behind the clouds on Friday when the temperature got up to just above freezing at 35 degrees. No more precipitation is expected this week with lows in the 40s.
