MARC center residents and staff got their hands dirty Monday, June 17, when the Little River Basin Master Gardener Association of Milam County replaced deteriorating flower beds at the center.
Master Gardeners were on hand to teach the residents about gardening and get them started in planting and maintaining vegetable and flower gardens at the MARC Center.
“The residents and staff were very enthusiastic about growing a garden,” said Reba Fischer, a master gardener.
Last weekend, Master Gardener Association volunteers spent two and half hours replacing deteriorated existing garden beds and adding new beds and planter containers.
“This is a very worthy and rewarding projection for our association,” said JoAnn Bradford, project leader.
Master gardeners will work with the residents on an occasional basis with education programs and on a seasonal basis with the garden.
The MARC Center is a non-profit agency that provides day-stay activities for intellectually challenged adults.
