They say, “Today is a good day to have a good day.” That’s truth. They also say, “It’s what we put into our days that makes them a good day.” So that compels us to ask the question, “What are we putting into our days to make them good?”

God talks about this in Psalm 1:1-3. He says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

If we put God’s Word into our daily lives we will have good days. Not perfect days, but still good. “Ken, how can our days always be good because we all have challenges that are hard?” Sure, we all have stuff, but God’s Word tells us how to deal with the nouns (people, places and things) in our lives therefore with this guidance we don’t have to be robbed of His blessings just because we are hanging out with turkeys.

There are four things in this passage. First, you will be blessed, happy and prosperous if you are a disciple of the Word of God. Let me encourage you - punch in, roll up your sleeves and get to work by studying your Bible. “Delight,” find joy, be glad about what you read, chew on it, think about it and then do what you read (James 1:22). “Happy is the person” that does that is what God is saying to us in this Psalm.

Second thing is in verse: Don’t get advice about life from daytime talk shows or the horoscope page in the newspaper. Don’t get distracted from God’s Word. Lay off those crazy social media traps that tell you who you are, what your name means or what your favorite color tells you about yourself. Why? Because God says these things are not where you look for wise counsel. At the end of the day, they are not best for you, not healthy for you and not productive to living a healthy Christian life.

Third point is in verse: Don’t hang out with those that mock God. People that think they know better than the One who created all that we know is in existence are not your friends. People that laugh at God and create their own truth. Those that live for themselves, those that are living for the weekend or the next trip are not folks you should emulate or strive to keep up with. They are selfish. These are the ones that created the “cancel” culture. I think the term is “narcissistic.” If you thought getting shingles was bad, befriend these worldly people that want to win at any cost and shingles will look like a kid’s birthday party, complete with pony rides and cake.

Ken, “What happens if we put God first, put His Word first every day?” I’m glad you asked. Verse 3 says we will have stability in our lives. Our lives will be like a tree planted by a stream. There will be a constant supply of nourishment, renewal and you will thrive as a Christian. You will grow, mature, have deep roots in your relationship with the Lord and have supernatural strength (Philippians 4:13) when those nouns (trouble) come at you. Some would say, “You will always be in bloom.” What’s the application from all this? Put God’s Word into your life daily and you will have experiential knowledge of the Lord’s power and presence.

He told me to tell you that.
