The Reporter’s Shannon Whorton took these photos of Sunday night’s total eclipse of the moon, which was said to be one of the most viewed ever in the United States. That’s because of the combination of timing, height in the sky and (at least in Texas) clear to partly cloudy weather conditions. Interest in the Jan. 20 eclipse was heightened by its proximity to the moon’s closest point to the earth in its monthly orbit, making it appear slightly larger than the average, a “supermoon” in current language. The eclipse began just before 11 p.m. and was total at 11:31.
