Good attendance is critical for students to be successful in High School. Students are required to be present in school at least 90% of the school year. The 90% rule and what constitutes excused versus unexcused absences can be confusing. Both excused and unexcused absences count towards the 90% rule.

This is where it is confusing for both students and their parents.

The average school year is around 180 days. A student can be absent on average about 18 days out of the school year.

Anything over the 18 days and student attendance falls below 90%. Students that fall into this category will have to make up seat time in order to bring their attendance into compliance with the Texas attendance laws. Failure to do so could result in the loss of credit for the semester or year.

We offer several alternatives for students to make up time.

Students can come before or after school to tutorials as well as Saturday School. Saturday School is every Saturday from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

In order to stay in compliance with the state of Texas, students need to be in school 90 % of the time. This includes full days, partial days, and individual periods.

Remember, both excused and unexcused absences count towards the 90% rule.
