GRAND OPENING—On Thursday, a grand opening of the new Milam County Annex was held at 9:30 a.m. The well-attended event heard from County Judge Steve Young about how all of the planning took place in order to accomplish this monumental and expensive task. A $4.7-million-grant from the Economic Development Administration was applied for and granted to renovate the former Cameron hospital building. Almost all county services will be housed in the annex, including the Milam County Clerk, Tax Assessor/Collector, Treasurer, Auditor, District Attorney, Emergency Management, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Bea’s Kitchen, Texas Workforce Solutions, Adult and Juvenile Probation and Twin City Services. Four of the downtown Cameron buildings vacated by the county have already been purchased and renovations have begun for a coffee shop and two restaurants and a nail salon to help revitalize the downtown area around the Milam County Courthouse.
