The City of Rockdale announces the impending transformation of the once-undeveloped Rockdale Industrial Park into a vibrant residential community, known as the Cornerstone Development.
This achievement is the result of strategic planning and collaboration between the City of Rockdale, the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) Board, Ranch Road Development and homebuilder D.R. Horton.
The Rockdale Industrial Park is undeveloped but is equipped with essential infrastructure including water and sewer service to the site. The MDD Board voted to market the property for residential development in the fall 2021, weeks before Samsung announced their Taylor project.
The MDD Bo a r d received an offer from Bastrop- based Ranch Road Development in July 2022 and the sale was completed in December 2022.
Ranch Road Development is par tnering with D.R. Horton to be the homebuilder. Cornerstone Development aims to offer 660 lots ranging from 40-50 feet wide and a selection of town homes, with a projected build-out of five to seven years with the first batch of houses to be ready by Christmas 2024. There is also a 13-acre site reserved for a future elementary school.
“Cornerstone Development will represent a signifi cant milestone in Rockdale’s economic growth, as it transforms an underutilized industrial area into an attractive residential community,” said MDD Economic Director Jim Gibson. “The project showcases the city’s commitment to progress, job creation and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.”
Groundbreaking will begin on Wednesday, June 21 at 8:30 a.m. at 900 North FM 487.
