The Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit is quickly approaching. The event has been set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, in the Caldwell Civic Center.

“All are welcome to attend,” Doug Box, spokesman for the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation, said.

“The Summit is free and open to the public with lunch provided. It will be held at the Caldwell Civic Center, 103 Texas 21 and all are welcome to attend,” he added.

George E. King will present information about hydraulic fracturing. King is a Registered Professional Engineer in Oklahoma and Texas with 44 years oilfield experience since starting with Amoco Production Research in 1971.

“Oilfield produced water handling and options for reuse or disposal are varied and often depend on the location, the amount of well development activity and the types and volumes of water handled,” King said.

His discussion will focus on oil and gas industry produced water handling including water source options, transport, recycle treating and disposal opportunities and limits, as well as the factual risks involved for each.

Emissions, leak potential, threat to groundwater and seismic disturbance potential will be addressed.

King is currently Apache Corporation’s Distinguished Engineering Advisor. His technical background includes basic research on energized fracturing, work-overs, chemicals, acidizing, well integrity, horizontal well completions and unconventional formations and includes 73 presented and published papers, book chapters and journal articles.

The speaker has a bachelor of science, majoring in chemistry from Oklahoma State bachelor of science in chemical engineering and a masters of science in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa where he also taught engineering courses at night for 11 years while working for Amoco.

“We will also kick off our Free Water Quality Sampling Campaign at this years summit, “Box said. “Get your well water tested free.”

To participate, pick up a sampling packet at the Summit on August 15 at the summit, or at the AgriLife Extension offices in either Burleson or Milam Counties between Aug 16 and 23.

Samples must be dropped off Aug. 23 between 8 a.m. and 1:30 pm at the Burleson or Milam County Extension Offices.

“Make sure you collect the sample the same day that you drop it off,” Box said. “Easy to follow instructions will be provided.”

Post Oak Savannah GCD is sponsoring this campaign in partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension offices in Burleson and Milam Counties, as well as the Texas Water Resource Institute and Texas Well Owner’s Network.

“This test is a $65 value,” he added.
