In other city council news, the proposed gun range by Tony Ellis passed the first reading of the city ordinance 4 to 1 at Monday’s meeting. One council member was absent.
Passions were high both for and against this project and several people spoke for each side of the argument.
Jerr y McPeek, Ellis,Kaylee Veit, Mary Lou Loehr and Teddy Warren spoke in favor of the range, while Wendie Upson and former city councilwoman Belinda Hillhouse spoke against.
Two other ordinances were passed by the council for giving the city leeway in putting up stop and yield signs where needed without involving the council, andanother one giving Public Works Director Gerald Brunson a more streamlined process on purchase orders.
Another ordinance passed the second reading involving the MDD which establishes guidelines and criteria for approval of property tax abatements and other incentives for new businesses comingto Rockdale.
