Stained glass from what was the oldest residence in Rock-dale now has permanent home in the city library. James Whited (L) and Mark Fatheree installed this piece of history in the Ackerman Street show window of the library Monday afternoon. A smaller piece was installed above the librarian’s office, across from the circulation desk, inside. The stained glass was painstakingly rescued and restored from the burned Dr. Rob Wallis house by the Milam County Historical Society. The house burned on Jan. 19, 2016. It dated from at least the early 1870s. The site is now part of the new police station complex. This display area is also historic. It was once part of Rockdale’s old Vogel Variety Store.
