There are an abundance of great things happening at RJH. We just wrapped up girls and boys basketball and are preparing for track. Band had a successful performance and great community support at their annual Spaghetti Supper. Our FFA will participate in competitions in Cy Creek and Weimer. NJHS is preparing for spring inductions. Academically, students are working hard toward their learning targets in all of their classes.

We are in preparations for scheduling for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Again, this is an exciting time of year, but very busy for all!

We are excited to continue to offer a variety of electives at Rockdale Junior High. Here are some examples of what our students are learning and doing in their elective courses. SUCCEED is where our students are learning and working on organizational and study skills, developing critical thinking, receiving academic help from peers and participating in enrichment and motivational activities.

Band students have been learning fundamental skills and perform at all RISD concerts and other activities at RJH.

Technology Applications students are learning about current and emerging technologies. Students are digital citizens, and use creative and computational thinking to solve problems.

Principles of Information Technology has our students using collaboration tools such as blogs, wiis, Edmodo, Google Apps for Schools and discussion boards. Students create products using Microsoft office 2010 software and other web-based applications.

Art is offered to students from Intro Art to Art I. Our students have been developing their drawing skills and painting techniques. We have some true artists on our campus. In addition, Art I students have the opportunity to earn a high school fine arts credit in junior high.

PE and Athletics has given our students an opportunity to develop mentally as well as physically, learn basic skills necessary to compete in many of the UIL sports, and our athletic students have been part of one of the teams competing in scheduled UIL competitions.

Theater Arts has our students acting, directing, playwriting and learning about technical theater.

In Money Management our students are understanding and applying management skills to their personal banking, learning how to establish and maintain credit and analyzing the cost of living.

Principles of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources is where students have become familiar with food and its origins.

Conversational Spanish has given students an opportunity to become familiar with the Spanish language and cultures in Spanish speaking countries. Spanish 1 is equivalent to the Spanish 1 course offered at Rockdale High School. Students have been speaking, listening, reading and writing in Spanish to be able to communicate in everyday situations. Upon successful completion of Spanish I at the Rockdale Junior High students will earn a high school foreign language credit needed to graduate high school.

Lastly, Health is an elective where students have been studying personal hygiene, nutrition, and accident prevention.

We have a lot going on with our core and elective courses. I hope this gives insight as students start having conversations about course selections for the upcoming school year.
