The Rockdale ISD School Board approved the promotion of Brent Hasselbach to become the next RHS principal during Monday’s board meeting in the high school library.
Hassellbach has been in education for 24 years with small stops in Lorena and Lexington before teaching social studies and coaching in Rockdale for six years. He became an assistant principal at RHS in 2010.
The San Antonio native holds a Bachelor of Education from Baylor University and a Masters of Education in Administration from Lamar University.
He is married to Leslie Hasselbach, art and music teacher at Rockdale Intermediate School, with three children: Annie, a junior education major at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Doss, a freshmen mathematics major also at UMHB and Jake, a sophomore at RHS.
Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo said that the board is excited to have Hasselbach to take over.
“Brent has played a large part in bringing Rockdale High School to its current status as nationally recognized campus,” she said. “We are confident he will continue to move RHS forward.
“He has a love for Rockdale schools and the community and wants nothing but the best for our students.”
Hasselbach succeeds Tiffany Whitsel, who is leaving the school at the close of the semester to become the Director of Secondary Schools for Waco ISD.
Hasselbach starts his new role on Jan. 6 after the holiday break.
Hasselbach was hired on a 6-0 vote.
Trustees went into a brief executive session before voting to confirm the new principal. Monday’s session was the annual RISD board luncheon.
ACADEMICS–Six RHS students were recognized for Academic All-State honors.
They included senior volleyball players Andrea Salazar, Emily Depine and Payton Miller, trainers Briana David and Nygia Crawford and football player Ross Loth.
All six students have maintained a grade-point average of 92 or above for their entire high school career.
