On Dec. 12, Rober t Kirkpatrick of the Milam County Health Department hosted a five-member health delegation from Indonesia for a one-and-ahalf- hour presentation on rural public health.
“The medial doctors were very pleased with their opportunity to learn about rural public health in Texas,” said Kirkpatrick.
The delegation was comprised of members from local government, nonprofi t organizations and a university, and were here as part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, IVLP. The IVLP was created in the 1950s and considered a premier professional exchange program.
“You may ask why would there be an interest in rural public health. Indonesia has a population of 275 million and is comprised of over 17,000 islands,” Kirkpatrick added.
