Rockdale logged six consecutive days of highs at 105 or greater, topping out at 111 Monday, but the summer of 2018 hasn’t yet entered the record books.

The 111 reading is two degrees shy of Rockdale’s all time high of 113 recorded Sept. 4, 2000.

Of course there’s a long way to go, but, as July enters its last week, 2018 still hasn’t challenged 2011 for the title of Rockdale’s hottest year.

Beginning last Wednesday, highs of 106, 105, 106, 107, 108 and 111 were recorded at the U. S Weather Service thermometer at KRXT-FM.

There’s no doubt it’s hot and the bad news is August is traditionally Rockdale’s hottest month, so there’s a whole lot of summer still to come. But for now the all-time record holder continues to be seven years ago when 2011 broke every heat record but hottest day, peaking at 112.

In 2011, the mercury climbed into triple digits 91 times and 42 of those were 105 or higher.

This year’s first 100 reading was an even 100 on July 1.

In 2011 there had already been a high of 108 by June 26.
