We are excited to start the new year at Rockdale Intermediate! As you know, we weren’t sure what the previous semester was going to bring in the midst of the pandemic but our kids and staff are resilient and it was a great semester.

As we approach this semester I want to discuss the importance of your child's attendance each day.

This school year has introduced many health and safety concerns thanks to COVID-19.

We are still asking families to follow the Learn Safe Rockdale plan and notify the office if you need to keep your child home.

Our district nurse, Keari Spence, is a great resource for helping you navigate questions or concerns.

If your child is quarantined, we have a plan in place that allows your child to complete missed work daily and be counted present. Please call the office if your child is going to be absent for several days.

Attendance is more important now than ever.

We missed the majority of spring semester last year and did the best we could with the resources we had to educate our students.

However, we know it wasn’t the same as being with a teacher in a classroom.

Our teachers are working day in and day out to make sure our students are caught up and where they need to be before promotion to the next grade level.

This is nearly impossible to achieve when a student is consistently absent.

The state of Texas is still requiring the administration of STAAR testing.

The test covers material taught each year as well as in previous years.

Each day your child is absent they miss vital material.

We are asking for your help. Please make sure students are at school every day unless it is totally unavoidable.

Our school day begins at 7:30 a.m. and students are considered tardy at 7:45 a.m.

If your child is tardy they are missing instruction that must be made up at some point.

We appreciate all your help in pushing our students to success and can’t wait to see what 2021 brings for Rockdale Intermediate.
