Monday is Memorial Day. Yes, really. It still is.

Because of the pandemic, there won’t be the usual gathering and reading of names of Milam County war dead, which this year would have been held at Rockdale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525.

But a pre-recorded service will be simulcast on Milam County’s two radio stations, KRXT in Rockdale and KMIL in Cameron at 10 a.m. Monday.

It will include County Judge Steve Young and Cameron Mayor Bill Harris. It’s offered to the public by the Cameron VFW and Rockdale American Legion Post 358.

“Memorial Day is to remember the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Remembering those who lost their lives and did not come home,” Donna Diver VFW Post 6525 Auxiliary president, said.

“We are looking back on their service and the freedoms that we enjoy today because of them. Please put out your Flags,” she added.
