—Geri Burnett of Rockdale (center), chair of the Milam County Historical Commission, was awarded the state commission’s John Ben Sheppard County Historical Commission Leadership Award Thursday during a banquet at the Sheraton Austin Hotel. The award recognized “outstanding individual leadership necessary to carry out an aggressive and well-balanced preservation program,” according to Charles Sadnick III, director of the commission’s History Programs Division. With Mrs. Burnettt were her husband, Bob, and their daughters, from left, Paula Phillips, Laura Carlisle and Beth Driskill. Rockdale residents Dr. Lucile Estell and Joy Graham were former recipients of the prestigious award.
