The Milam County Historical Commission will conduct its meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, at the historic Old City Hall in Rockdale and will include a presentation and discussion about the renovation project for the building. Attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably for an unairconditioned environment.
The purpose of this commission is to preserve, protect, and promote history within the county. Topics of discussion include, but are not limited to, Freedom Colonies, El Camino Real de los Tejas Historic Trail, the 1895 Project, hundreds of historic cemeteries, and multiple individual restoration efforts.
The commission members are volunteers appointed by the County Commissioners Court to serve. The meetings are open to the public and current members are from all across the county.
Joan Ratliff of Rockdale is the current chairman of the commission. Anyone interested in promoting and preserving Texas history, particularly involving Milam County, is invited to attend the commission’s meetings.
