The Hutto Family YMCA will operate the City of Rock-dale swimming pool this summer in what city officials hope is the start of a partnership.
As part of the new relationship the Hutto “Y” will host aquatics training for prospective lifeguards in several locations, including the Rockdale City Pool.
Dates for Rockdale training are March 30-31 and April 6-7.
City Manager Chris Whittaker said its hoped the Hut-to organization will partner with the city in other recreational activities in the future. “There’s a lot of potential,” he said.
LIFEGUARDS—The lifeguard training is the “Y Lifeguard V6 edition,” a $190 course value. According to the Hutto Y enrollees must put down $25 at the time of registration and the balance will be waived after the course is successfully completed and a job offer is accepted.
It includes eight hours of “E-learning” and 29 hours of pool and classroom learning.
Registrants must be age 16 by the final day of class. They must bring a swimsuit—no bikinis—towel, pen and picture ID to classes.
One hundred percent attendance will be required to pass the course and participants will need access to the Internet and a printer.
There are fitness and swimming prerequisites to participate in lifeguard training.
