At the last city council meeting several finishing touches were approved for the sale of the former industrial property on FM 487 to Cornerstone Development, including a financing agreement, a dissolution agreement and a settlement statement. These items needed to be approved so that the closing of the land could happen on Friday, Dec. 16, which did happen after the closing date had been pushed back several times.
“The Rockdale MDD has been working since April to market the property, find a buyer, work with a developer on a vision for the property, and complete the sale,” said RMDD Board President, Nathan Bland. “This was a team effort with the City of Rockdale, the RMDD and the developers to get this over the finish line.”
Ranch Road proposed in July to partner with the RMDD, the City of Rockdale, and D.R. Horton to construct a 660-unit residential subdivision with a mix of 40 foot, 50 foot, and townhouse lots. Ranch Road is reserving green space for walking trails and pocket parks. “Ranch Road also set aside 13 acres for a future school site,” explained Rockdale City Manager Barbara Holly. “What Ranch Road submitted is a quality development plan and D.R. Horton is a great builder. This will be transformative for Rockdale.”
The final infrastructure design for the subdivision will take place in 2023 with a Phase I groundbreaking later next year. The first houses will be available for purchase 24-30 months from now.
IN OTHER BUSINESS:
• The council also authorized two new public works positions to be funded through the Enterprise Fund, a clerk and another licensed operator.
• Chase Parker petitioned the council to add boat and RV storage to the Allowed Use Table which was passed.
• Two new services were approved by the council for broadcasting the council meetings and a new notification system. Rushworks and Everbridge won the contracts for the city. The notification system is similar to the one already in use, but there are more bells and whistles with the new system. Rockdalians will need to sign up to get the notifications and The Reporter will update our readers on when to sign up for the new service.
• A recycling program from BIG (Rockdale’s trash service, Brannon Industrial Group) was introduced and approved for an every-other-week service that is optional for the next calendar year. The cost is $9 per month. Again, we will inform you when the opportunity comes up to sign up for this optional service.
