Snow fell and fell, and then fell some more Sunday as a predicted polar arctic blast stretched deep into Texas.
The amount of snow that fell throughout the day Sunday depended on where one was.
Folks on FM 908 north of town measured five and a half inches while some people in the central part of Rockdale measured their totals to be between two and four inches.
Whatever the measure, it had staying power that kept some of the white crystals around until midweek.
City crews were out cleaning up limbs in roadways that broke from trees under the weight of the hours-long snow accumulation, according to Jerald Brunson, the Rockdale Public Works Director. The city’s website said Rockdale residents may have storm debris removed at no charge through Jan. 22. Once limbs have been placed at the curb, contact City Hall at 512-446-2511 to schedule a pick up.
He said the city also put sand out around the road at the volunteer fire department in case units had to go on calls.
Oncor’s outage map showed only a few of its 9,624 customers lost power during the downfall of snow, but some Suddenlink users did lose internet service for about 24 hours.
The winter storm that passed through caused extensive damage to parts of our service area, Oncor said on it website.
People were spotted around town making snow people, having snowball fights and frolicking about in the icy, cold white stuff.
