Mr. Jones

Gordon E. Jones, 82, passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion and love.

Born into a large and closek ni t f ami ly in Rockdale, Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Laura Jones, and his siblings, Johnny Jones, Robert Jones, Patsy Hickman and Rosemary Wiley.

He is survived by his brother, Alber t Jones, and his wife, Jan Jones, along with thei r chi ldren and grandchildren.

Gordon was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shelby Jones, with whom he shared a lifetime of partnership and cherished memories. Together, they built a strong family rooted in faith and support.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, Russell E. Jones, Russell’s wife, Christine, and their children, Tyler and Caitlin. Being a father and grandfather was one of Gordon’s greatest joys, and he treasured every moment spent w ith hi s fami ly.

Gordon was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, serving honorably as an air traffic controller.

He went on to enjoy a successful career in banking, retiring from Yoakum State Bank after many years of dedicated and trusted service. His work afforded him the opportunity to travel the country, form lifelong friendships and ultimately settle into retirement in Yoakum.

A man of many passions, Gordon embraced the RV lifestyle, loved fishing and enjoyed spending time on the golf course. Above all, he was an avid and accomplished coin collector, curating several complete collections with care, patience and deep appreciation for the hobby.

A devoted Christian, Gordon served faithfully as a deacon, supporting his church community with generosity, humility and heart. His life was a testament to his faith, and he touched countless lives through his ser v ice and k indnes s.

Gordon was a blessed and wonderful man—steadfast, loving and gentle. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to his family and friends.
