Because of the road construction downtown, there will not be a Juneteenth Parade this year, but there will be a special ceremony at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at Sumuel Park.
According to event planner Henry Miller, “We’re going to have a meal that used to be eaten in the cotton fields in the old days.”
The meal will be hangdown summer sausage with crackers and cheese, pinto beans, orange and grape sodas and Big Red.
There will also be music.
Even though there is no parade this year, Grand Marshall Jessie Johnson will address the crowd.
