A bizarre incident last week ended in charges being filed against a 14-year-old male.
Lt. Stephen Goodrich said police were called to a residence near the junior-high and were told a juvenile had broken into the residence then was initially apprehended by the home owner while attempting to take a vehicle.
“The youth, apparently trying to get out of trouble, actually brought the keys back to the residence in an attempt to return them,” Goodrich said.
“While there he was cornered in the kitchen and threatened Officers Corey Puente and Dillian Ford with a knife,” Goodrich said.
Charles of burglary of a habitation and assault on a public servant were filed.
FIGHT—A 24-year-old Rockdale man was arrested at 2:04 a.m. Sunday in connection with what police said was a fight at a residence in the area of Brazos Street.
“It was a gathering of people,” Goodrich said. “It ended up with a fight involving several people, during which a man sustained a dislocated arm and a woman was threatened with a gun.”
Benny Leroy Grosshans was charged with aggravated assault with deadly weapon and aggravated assault date/family/household with weapon.
He was released after posting $40,000 bond.
Goodrich said another charge is expected to be filed in connection with the incident.
DRUG ARRESTS—Two persons were charged with drug offenses Thursday afternoon.
Goodrich said Mark Anthony Benford, 39, of Rockdale and Florida Mae Williams, 30, of Austin, were each charged with possession of controlled substance (less than one gram) and possession of marijuana (less than two ounces).
Both were released after posting bond of $3,500 each.
ACCIDENTS—For the second consecutive week, as Rockdale and Milam County remained in a Shelter-In-Place situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were no traffic accidents reported within the city limits.
CITATIONS—Police issued six citations during the past week, two for disorderly conduct-unreasonable noise and one each for driving while license invalid, no driver’s license, violation of open container law and speeding.
OFFENSES—Offense investigations begun during the past week included burglary of a habitation, criminal mischief, theft, criminal trespass.
SERVICE CALLS—Officers responded to 153 calls for service during the past week and there were 58 calls received through the 911 emergency dispatch at the Rockdale Police Department.
