Yes, there are still “live” indoor events in Rockdale.
The KC Hall was the site Thursday as the American Red Cross held a blood drive for the community.
Twenty-nine pints of blood was collected as the drive exceeded its goal, according to Jessica Amaro, ARC spokesperson.
Amaro said the drive’s goal was actually to “process” 35 donors and collect 26 pints and that goal was surpassed.
“In any drive there are some prospective donors who won’t be able to give blood due to a variety of medical conditions including blood pressure, hemoglobin levels and other medication issues.
“We actually surpassed the collection goal by getting 29 pints,” Amaro said.
“It was exciting to have 13 firsttime donors, young adults recruited by our project volunteers,” she said.
“It was a great turnout,” Esmeralda Ruelas and Tatiana Olivares, ARC volunteers said. “We had donors from Rockdale, Cameron, Giddings,
Thorndale and Buckholts and even had to turn some folks away, who walked in, because we did not have available time slots.”
She said another drive is planned in June with the support of KC Council 7014.
COVID-19 precautions were observed, including taking temperatures, filling our questionnaires and social distancing.
Donors who did not have masks were provided with them, along with hand sanitizer.
