We can’t believe that our kiddos have completed an entire semester at Rockdale Elementary School! We hit the ground running and had a semester jam packed full of learning and fun. We can’t wait to see what this semester brings.
In September, we continued to learn about the rules and procedures of school and how to be a good classmate. We are incredibly fortunate that the district purchased our campus some additional technology and we are now 1:1 with Chromebooks. That means that every kindergarten student has a laptop that they can use throughout the day to learn and play on activities given to them by their teacher. We also built a little school spirit and learned the Fight Song and had the opportunity to have RHS football players read to us. The cheerleaders, cross country team and even Rocky the Tiger came to greet us as we arrived at school and passed out stickers.
In October, we participated in Red Ribbon Week that included dress up days and lessons to help keep our bodies safe and healthy.
November was another month full of activities. Along with learning our letters and sounds, numbers and counting we participated in RES’s first annual Veteran’s Day program. We learned all about veterans and we are so thankful for them. We were able to take a field trip this year and enjoyed all the sights at the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco.
December was here before we knew it and we were so excited to participate in lots of holiday fun. First, we collected food for Christmas Round Up to help uplift those in need in our community. Next, we mailed our letters to Santa and practiced singing Christmas carols. Just because we had lots of fun doesn’t mean we weren’t learning. Kids who were able to identify all their letters (capital and lowercase) as well as all the letter sounds were rewarded with a donut party. We are so proud of all the progress our kids have made.
January was busy with lots of phonemic awareness, learning our numbers to 20, counting to 100 and practicing writing sentences. We also learned about Martin Luther King.
February is going to be busy celebrating the 100th day of school and learning about Presidents’ Day.
In March, kindergartners will perform our annual fairy tale play for parents and families. It's such an exciting time to showcase the students and their hard work with performances and singing.
We look forward to all the fun and learning we will do during the remainder of the spring semester.
