Rockdale native Amie Stone King has formed a team for Woman of the Year with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
“Each year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its ‘Man & Woman of the Year’ fundraising campaign, and this year I am honored to be a candidate for Team Rebels With a Cause,” King said.
Man and Woman of the Year is philanthropic competition to support blood cancer research among a group of motivated and dedicated individuals in communities across the United States. Candidates form powerful fundraising teams and compete in honor of two local children who are blood cancer survivors.
The man and woman who have raised the most funds during the ten-week campaign are awarded the prestigious title of Man or Woman of the Year in their community. The man and woman who have raised the most across the entire US will be recognized as the national Man & Woman of the year.
The deadline for giving is June 4 and Amie and her team have set a goal of $150,000. At the end of fundraising there will be a gala and any team member who raises $3,000 will be invited to that. There are currently 14 members on Amie’s team. All funds raised go to cancer research and to patients/families to help pay for mortgages and food while going though treatment.
