Last day filings Friday produced contested races for both the Rockdale City Council and Rockdale ISD School Board May 2.

And there’s a twist.

An incumbent school board member passed up filing for re-election in order to seek a city council position being vacated by an incumbent councilman.

Both those races will be contested, the only contests in South Milam County.

CITY—Lin Perry, current Place 6 school board incumbent filed Friday for the west ward city council seat being vacated by Doug Calame.

Calame didn’t file for re-election.

Monique Gebhart filed for the west ward position and will face Perry on May 2.

East ward incumbent Denise Holmes-Wallace is unopposed for another term in her east-ward slot.

SCHOOL—Vying for the Place 6 school board seat currently held by Perry are Michael Whitsel and Janice Keen.

Incumbent Julia Cardona is unopposed for another term in Place 7.

HOSPITAL BOARD— Rockdale Hospital District directors will be able to cancel their election.

They are:

• Gerri Offield, Place 2 (East Ward).

• Karolyn Puccio, Place 4 (West Ward).

• Lachelle Matthews, (At-Large).

RFA—Rockdale city voters will also be asked whether the city will convey Fair Park to the Rockdale Fair Association.

The fair grounds was originally the property of a former Fair Association, and was conveyed to the city in 1919.

MILANO—In the Milano ISD, trustees Ed Westbrook and Jay Willingham are seeking new terms and Steve Telg signed up during the past week making the race a three-man contest for two terms.

Milano City Council members Edward Lenz and John Paniagua, have filed for re-election.

THORNDALE—Last week filings filled up the Thorndale city ballot, which had no candidates at all heading into the final two days of filing.

Council members Wayne Green and Steven Zuehlke filed for new terms on the council.

Marla Davis also filed. She is unopposed for the seat being vacated by Allen Hejl who passed up the ballot for this May’s city election.

It’s four persons for two positions on the Thorndale ISD. Incumbents Chad Martinka and Kimberly Biar filed have signed up for new terms.

Lance Weidner and Terrell Weise had previously filed.
