Thorndale High School senior Landry Laywell signs her letter of intent in front of her parents Hank and Kim Laywell to continue her tennis career at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. Laywell has qualified for the Class 2A UIL state championship three times and won the girls singles division last year. She gets another chance to defend her state title on Thursday and Friday in College Station. Laywell opens the tournament on Thursday morning against Liz Perkins of Moody at 9:30 a.m. If she wins, she takes the court again in the state semi-finals at 3 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
