The temperature dropped just in time for the Rockdale Downtown Association’s (RDA) tree lighting last Thursday night. Attendees were served free chili cooked by Climate Control AC & Heating, free hot chocolate and cookies donated by Nathan Bland with Rollo Insurance.
Over 300 people showed up to watch the second annual tree lighting. Chad Harris and other Whinstone employees were also on hand to see the tree they donated to the RDA last year.
The RDA raised over $30,000 from Rockdale businesses and individuals to pay for the tree but Harris decided to buy it himself and leave the money to the RDA for downtown beautification projects which are already in the planning stages and will be implemented after the road and sidewalk work is finished.
It was a magical night for the children as they counted down from 10 for the lighting, eyes full of wonder with delighted smiles and clapping.
