Thanks to outgoing judge for leadership
Dear editor,
As Milam County welcomes a new year and newly elected officials, I salute those who have served and welcome those who will be soon taking office.
Special thanks is due to our retiring County Judge, David Barkemeyer, for shepherding us through one of Milam County’s most difficult seasons. ‘In the face of major business closures and drastically declining tax revenues he has had to work extremely hard to maintain county services while keeping his sights on the future and hope that only eyes of faith can see in such trying times.
Thank you, Judge Barkemeyer, for keeping county citizens informed through your regular column in the Rockdale Reporter as challenges arose and solutions were considered.
You gave us the hard facts and also the assurance that you were on top of them.
In one of your columns, you wrote about the oath of office you took when you were inaugurated. I clipped and saved that column, Looking back over your years at the helm, it is obvious that you fulfilled your pledge beautifully. May Milam County be blessed with future leaders who will follow in your example.
