Each year The American Legion Post 358 and The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 honor the men from Milam County who lost their lives on the battlefields.
They are placing flags in Bridge Park, and there will be one American flag for each individual who fell on the battlefields of the world.
“We have decided that we would like to do more this year. The Veterans of Foreign Wars has purchased new, larger flags for our fallen comrades. These flags will be on display the week of Memorial Day at Bridge Park,” said spokesperson Jim Foster.
This year they decided they would also like to purchase 20 new three feet by five feet American Flags to mark each War Campaign: WWI (56) WWII (153) Korea (9) Vietnam (13) and WGOT (2).
These flags and poles cost $69 each and the two posts are asking for help. “They are American made flags, and that is important to us. We are asking if area citizens would partner with us to help us honor these brave souls in a way that we all can be proud. Perhaps one of these men has a special significance to you and your family, and you would be willing to purchase one of these flags to help us make this memorial more attractive and noticeable as you drive down US 79,” Foster added.
The community is invited to the memorial and walk around the park as you remember that freedom is not free.
If you will consider purchasing one of these flags for a very worthy cause call Jim Foster at 512-430-0600 or Donna Diver at 512-760-6160.
