Gather manager, has placed with the city a large tractor grader, known as the Fordson-Wehr, being a combination of a Fordson tractor and a Wehr grader. The city has had ample time to demonstrate the ability of this machine in caring for the streets and keeping them in good repair, and on the outcome of this demonstration the purchase of the machine was decided. The attractive and hospital home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Franklyn, on East Cameron Street, was the scene of a lovely party Tuesday morning, when Mrs. Franklyn charmingly entertained five tables of friend with the game of 42. The spacious living and dining rooms were thrown together and were artistically decorated with bowls and vases of roses and ferns. The tally cards were in rose and butterfly designs. At the conclusion of the games, Mrs. Franklyn, assisted by Mrs. C.M. Sessions, served the following delicious menu: Chicken salad, pickled beets, fruit salad, pimento sandwiches and iced tea.
Last Wednesday evening the members of the Carlyle Post No. 358, American Legion, entertained with a “chicken barbecue” near San Andres crossing, their guest being limited to ex-service men’s families, their sweethearts and out of town visitors. Long tables were provided, and lights were strung over the space, while a clear first-quarter moon and the Milky Way with its myriad of stars shed a soft light over the scene and emphasized the beauty of the surroundings. The menu consisted of chicken barbecued, potato salad, bread, pickles, coffee and punch.
