Rockdale Hospital District (RHD) directors, facing an Oct. 5 creditor lawsuit which they expected to lose, filed petitions to place Richards Memorial Hospital in Chapter 9 bankruptcy.
After months of dumpsters and residential trash piling up, the city had a message for garbage contractor Waste Management. “You’re fired.” City council members, in session at City Hall, also approved the 2000-01 fiscal year budget and adopted a 55.9 cent tax rate.
Thorndale police and Milam County Sheriff’s Department think they have a suspect after a shotgun-welding man held up Thorndale One-Stop, fleeing with $1,884.03. They believe it is the same man who held up Milano Truck Plaza on Labor Day.
Milam County Commissioners okayed a $7,165,838 budget for fiscal 2001 but delayed setting a new tax rate until after a public hearing.
TEN YEARS AGO....
After thousands of words, pro and con, about the proposed $16.3 million Milam County budget and 60-cent tax rate, both were approved in a unanimous vote of county commissioners. That vote was preceded by a 15-minute public hearing.

For the second straight year the Rockdale Fair was to hold its pageants on the Saturday before Fair weekend and this time they had some company. Pageants were being held in the RHS Auditorium and there was also to be roping at Fair Park.
It was flu shot season and shots are becoming available throughout Rockdale and Milam County with one big difference from last year’s flu season. “There is no separate H1N1 vaccine this year,” Michelle Ferguson of the Milam County Health Department said. “There’s one shot.”
