As might be expected in COVID-19-plagued 2020, there are a number of changes in the Rockdale Fair Baked Goods Show, according to County Agenty Micah Holcombe.
Entry deadline is Monday (Sept. 28).
Divisions include: Junior youth, third grade, ages 8 or 9–13 years; senior youth, ages 14—18. Ages are of the show day, Oct. 10. Participants must be 4-H or FFA members.
All UIL rules apply, (eligibility requirements, no pass/no play).
Exhibitors may enter one item in each of the following categories—Cakes, pies and cookies. No items requiring refrigeration may be entered. No decorations on cakes or pies. Garnishments are accepted (pecans, coconut, etc.). Cream cheese icing IS also accepted.
To enter, complete Rockdale Fair Auction Baked Foods Division entry form. Form and fees must be submitted to Rockdale Fair Association, PO Box 1582, Rockdale, TX 76567. Entry forms must be postmarked no later than Sept. 28. No late entries accepted.
Cakes must be from scratch or mix with a minimum of one additional item added.
Pie crust can be homemade or purchased.
Cookies cannot be purchased cookie dough.
Bar type desserts will be considered cookies.
All baked foods must be brought to the New Salem Club Building, Fair Park, between 8 and 10 a.m. Oct. 10. Complete recipe needs to be attached to the item. All baked food items should be displayed in or on a disposable container (container not judged). The Rockdale Fair Association and volunteers will not be responsible for containers.
Entries must be picked up between 1 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Entries not picked up by 2 p.m. become property of the Rockdale Fair Association. Entries may be donated to the RFA.
Grand and reserve entries in each category will be auctioned at the conclusion of the Youth Auction Sale, Saturday, Oct. 17.
Exhibitors placing grand or reserve in more than one category will only be allowed to sell one entry. Exhibitors may participate and be eligible to sell one project in each of the four sales.
Exhibitors making the auction must report to the Sale Arena at 5 p.m. Oct. 17 and also be present when their entry is auctioned.
Winners are also required to bake a fresh cake (same size), pie (same size), or cookies (two dozen or more) and deliver to the buyer within 2 weeks of the auction.
