You’ve probably noticed crews digging holes in the highway (US 79) that comes through downtown Rockdale in the past couple of weeks. There’s a reason. The city had been “under the gun” from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for sewer system violations which could have resulted in a hefty fine. But the city and TCEQ worked out a corrective agreement in which the city installed six new sewer holes along the highway. City Manager Chris Whittaker said, as of early this week, three of the six have been installed. This is at the Rice-Cameron (US 79) corner.
