A man is in custody following his theft of an ambulance on Monday morning in Cameron.
The Milam County Sheriff’s Office and the Cameron Police Department responded just before 5 a.m. in reference to a stolen ambulance. Allegiance Mobile Health said a man at a local hotel had called for an ambulance in reference to a mental health issue, then jumped in and drove off in it.
Deputies tracked the ambulance to a location in the 2200 block of CR 203 Loop where a short, off-road chase ensued before the drive crashed into a tree.
The driver, Grant Saline, 33-year-old from Illinois, was arrested at the scene and checked for injuries before being taken to Milam County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, evading arrest in a vehicle and criminal mischief. He also faces additional charges from the Cameron Police for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and unlawful restraint.
