A manhunt on Friday night ended with the subject captured early on Saturday morning. The subject, Christian Devaughn Rayford, was caught by MCSO Deputy Dillan Ford early Saturday mor ning when he stepped in front of Ford’s car on CR 302.

Rayford and his female accomplice had been on a car stealing spree and were both driving stolen cars from Houston. Rayford stopped on Ackerman and took a woman’s purse out of her car. The car owner was inside a shop at the time and saw him, ran outside and had the upper part of her body inside the car on the passenger side taking her purse back. She eventually fell out of the car window and received scrapes and “road rash.”

A manhunt ensued and the two subjects were found on CR 302. Rayford fled on foot but his accomplice was arrested at the scene.

Officers from the Milam County Sheriff’s Department, Rockdale, Caldwell and Cameron Police Departments and tracking dogs from Texas Department of Criminal Justice were all involved in the hunt. Texas Parks & Wildlife assisted with air support and thermal tracking.

There was quite a frenzy on social media with friends checking on people living in the area of FM 908 and CR 302. The Reporter asked Patti Luckey Schneider, who lives a half mile from where Rayford was captured, what she did after finding out about the manhunt.

“The first thing I did was load every gun in my house and turned on all the outside lights. I attached my car keys to my belt loop. Then I started seeing emergency lights at my next door neighbors and getting all kinds of updates via social media and texts. I waited and watched the chopper and listened to the dogs barking. I ended up staying dressed and awake until about 4 a.m. when I finally decided to give it to God. I have never felt so relieved to see Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore’s early morning update that he had been captured. I’ve already figured out a few things I would have done differently.”
