At Monday night’s city council meeting all the details of the sale of the property on FM 487 were nailed down and the plan is moving along as planned. Some new details on what would be required of the buyers were laid out by the council members and MDD Economic Director Jim Gibson. A new survey of the property will be conducted soon since the last survey was done in 2018. The council gave the go ahead for listing the property.

Lee Parsley, owner of Lee’s Landing, had some plumbing issues which were thought to have been fixed twice by the city. It turned out that there were three taps at the restaurant instead of the two the city knew about. This was due to the plumbing being old and not mapped out properly which the city is trying to remedy with a new mapping program. The program can be used to map many things in the city’s infrastructure, as well as zoning and boundaries.

The name of the computer program is iamGIS mapping software and it was demonstrated by Jim Blanchard.

For instance, if a builder came in and wanted to know where all the available property is in Rockdale for building, they could easily be shown with only one click.

Blanchard is also in the process of mapping out water lines, zoning and a host of other things that will help the city.

A maintenance service contract for Rockdale’s elevated and ground storage tanks for water was awarded to McGuire Iron. Roxana Bagwell, water tower expert, was on hand to accept the contract.

Curah Beard, campaign manager for Vision Historic Restoration Foundation, requested a 40-year lease permit for the section of land on the west side of The 1895 to the existing curb of Burleson Street which was granted.

The owner of the property at 331 West US 79 requested moving his prop erty from C-2 (commercial) to M-2 zoning for his mobile home park which he plans to develop further. The city would have more control over enforcing issues such as skirting of the homes, making sure they are properly pinned down and that the electricity is hooked up properly. That zoning was passed.

Other items were moving Rockdale from a 40% impervious coverage on property to 50% which puts the city in line with surrounding cities. An ordinance mandating the use of dumpsters for construction projects was passed and all construction in Rockdale will need to get their dumpsters from our new trash company, BVR.
