The annual MARC Ride put on by The Bad to the Bone Riders raised over $56,000 to support the MARC for another year. The Bad to the Bone Riders organization provides the largest amount of money to run the center.

“This year’s ride beat last year’s total by over $7,000,” according to organizer Charles Starr.

MARC Board President Ann King says the money raised will be used to provide enrichment opportunities for people in Milam County who attend the MARC.

“There are six people at summer camp this week through funding from the MARC Ride. Fourteen more consumers are participating in Five Days of Fun this week and will be attending the Dr Pepper Museum, Aggieland Safari, the Mayborn Museum, outlet mall shopping and having a swimming and pizza party on Friday,” she said.

Throughout the year the funds raised by the MARC Ride are used for various activities such as bowling twice a month in Temple, the annual Halloween dance and party, a Christmas luncheon with families, Friday summer swimming at the city pool and summer bingo bash, just to name a few.

Stops along the ride included Cindy’s Hawg Hangout in Hogg, Nat’s in Milano, Cliff’s Tavern, VFW Post 6525 and The Ranch in Rockdale.

There were over 600 plates of barbecue sold on Saturday with brisket cooked by Kathy Quinney and Jeff Stone, and sausage cooked by Boyd Taylor and Ron Montgomery.

A live auction was held at 4:30 p.m. which raised over $27,000.

“Words cannot express how grateful the MARC is for the dedication of the Bad to the Bone Riders who sponsor this event each year. We would like to thank those who participated in the MARC Ride, the volunteers who helped throughout the day, the donors who gave so many wonderful items and those who generously purchased at the auction. The MARC is truly blessed to have such wonderful support,” King added.
